Women's Soccer Defeats Northeastern 2-0 in Home Opener
BU Women's Soccer picked up their first win of the season over the Northeastern Huskies by a score of 2-0. Kylie Strom scored first for the Terriers, and Jessica Luscinski added her second goal of the season in the second half. It's often tough to tell when a soccer game is a blowout just by looking at the final score, but Northeastern was never really in this game. BU outshot them 19-2, and one of NU's shots came with 1 second remaining. The Huskies had other chances, but the Terriers were sharp on defense and were able to execute on the offensive end as well. The Terriers pick up a solid win here over a crosstown rival and the CAA preseason player of the year in Veronica Napoli after tying the #4 team in the country (Boston College) on Friday to improve to 1-0-1 overall.

Terriers Draw #4 Eagles in Season Opener
The Boston University women's soccer team started off the 2011 season on the right foot with hard fought 1-1 draw against cross-town rival #4 ranked Boston College.
The Terriers had extra motivation on Friday night, as they suffered two defeats to the Eagles in 2010, including a defeat in the NCAA tournament. The game was scheduled to begin at 4, but was delayed until 5:15 due to rain.
Senior Jessica Luscinski gave the Terriers the lead in the 24th minute. Luscinski, who is my bet to lead the Terriers and America East in goals, struck on a set piece from 25 yards out.
Boston College leveled the game in the 41st minute thanks to a Victoria DiMartino goal on BU keeper Kelly King. BU coach Nancy Feldman split time between keepers King and Alice Binns, a decision she continued from 2010. The draw was the first in the all-time series between the teams.
Binns finished with four saves to help the Terriers preserve the tie. BC keeper Jillian Mastroianni had a strong game with nine saves.
Although the Terriers cannot be upset with a draw against a potential NCAA champion, a win was not out of the question. A collision by the BU keeper and a defender led to the tying goal by the Eagles.
Luscinski led the Terriers with five shots on goal and now is in a tie for 7th on the all-time Terriers goal list with 21.
The Terriers' home opener is on Sunday at 7 against Northeastern. The Huskies shocked UConn on the road in their season opener by a score of 2-1.

Men's Hockey Schedule Released
Summer may not have really started yet, but it's never too early to look ahead to the upcoming hockey season. BU's schedule was released last week, featuring 17 home games at Agganis Arena. The two most exciting non-conference games are a home game against Denver on October 15th and a trip to Madison Square Garden to face Cornell in Red Hot Hockey on November 26th. Other than that, it's a pretty boring schedule as most games are against Hockey East foes. No tournaments this year aside from The Beanpot. I do like the road matchup against Harvard (January 4th) not only because it should be a win, but because it's close and we should be able to get some fans there even though it's over winter break. We get Harvard again in the first round of The Beanpot, so make sure you hold on to those finals tickets this year. Your first chance to see the team in action at home will be an exhibition against St. Francis Xavier on October 1st, but the season really gets started a week later when the Terriers host UNH. Just a little over 4 more months...
The Dog Pound Belongs to You!
Let's be honest, the Dog Pound this year was underwhelming to say the least. Attendance was low at most sporting events this year. While a lack of attendance may not be a surprise at the majority of Boston University athletic events, even men's hockey suffered in the student support category. There was a lack of originality and creativity at men's hockey at that must be changed.
I am not pointing fingers at anyone, but a change is needed in order to return the Dog Pound to its former glory. We need to make Agganis Arena an intimidating place to play, no matter the record of our beloved Terriers. We need to increase our attendance at sports other than men's hockey as well. Keep in mid the Dog Pound is not just the student fan section for men's hockey, but for all sports at Boston University.
The hope of this blog is to unite those passionate in BU Athletics. If we are a united, then there is no limit to the success of the Dog Pound. While we will likely never become an official SAO club at BU that does not mean we cannot have structure and organization within the Dog Pound. As of now I feel we are just a facebook profile and a group of unintegrated students. This blog is just one step to transforming the Dog Pound into a group that everyone can take part in. At the bottom of the blog is a forum where followers can post questions, answers, and comments.
